Today UArctic Congress 2018 concluded in Helsinki featuring addresses by President Tarja Halonen of Finland, and a closing panel looking at the goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a particular focus on gender equality and climate change.





Following today's sessions in Oulu - which include both the Education and Connectivity keynote plenaries - UArctic Congress 2018 moves on to Helsinki, hosted by the University of Helsinki.

The UArctic Congress 2018 Declaration has been endorsed by representatives of the Council, university leaders, Thematic Network leads. The full text of the Declaration follows.


Leaders of many UArctic's member universities met during the first day of the UArctic Congress 2018 to share experiences and address key issues facing northern higher education, including the main themes of the event.

Hosted by the University of Oulu and the University of Helsinki, the UArctic Congress 2018 represents the largest event ever organized by the University of the Arctic, with over 600 participants from more than 30 countries.

The 2018 issue of the UArctic Shared Voices magazine is now available online! This year the focus is on education and the many forms it takes in the Arctic.
