The grant aims to provide financial support to early career researchers in any field of cryospheric research to enable them to attend, and participate in, conferences and meetings that are fully or partly sponsored by the IGS. The grant also aims to increase participation of early-career, underrepresented minorities in cryospheric research (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color [BIPOC]), as well as those who do not have access to traditional sources of funding.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements:

  • Applicants must be early-career, defined as a student (undergraduate or graduate), or within five years of terminal degree;
  • Preference will be given to those applying from under-represented groups, and those who have limited access to traditional sources of funding;
  • Some priority will also be given to those who have not attended a conference before (regardless of funding situation);
  • Intended conference/meeting must be fully or partly sponsored by the IGS and be scheduled for the period 1 March–31 December 2024 (see the IGS events webpage for upcoming IGS conferences/meetings);
  • The grant can be used to cover registration fees, session/abstract submission costs, travel, accommodation, and any other relevant expenses; and
  • All applicants are asked to provide a reference with their applications. More details can be found on the grant application form.

The IGS website is updated regularly with the latest confirmed conferences/meetings, but occasionally there may be delays. As such, it is also worth keeping an eye on Cryolist and social media for the advertisement of new events to which you may be eligible (e.g., dates for IGS British Branch 2024 were recently advertised on Cryolist).

If eligible applicants choose not to apply this round, then a second call for applications will be circulated in early summer.

Application deadline: 31 January 2024

To apply: Download and complete both application forms and submit them via email to egg@igsoc.org.
