Chloe Kiernicki has joined the UArctic International Secretariat as the American Arctic Connection Intern; she is working at the office from March through August 2023.

Chloe studies at Tampere University, where she is pursuing a M.Sc. in Sustainable Architecture. In addition to curriculum about the built and natural environments, she is following courses from the Circumpolar Studies program and has virtually attended the winter school from UArctic member Harbin Institute of Technology and the Korea Arctic Academy.

Born and raised in the southeastern United States, Chloe is studying in Finland through a fellowship from the Fulbright Foundation, which has the goal of fostering academic and cultural exchange between the United States and other countries. She moved to Tampere in 2021 and has enjoyed learning about her new northern surroundings since then. During this internship, she will focus on strengthening academic connections between US and Finnish UArctic member universities, as well as supporting internationalization efforts at the University of Lapland.

The American Arctic Connection internship is a result of collaboration between UArctic and the United States Embassy in Finland.
