The Department of Anthropology at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

We are looking for an Indigenous scholar. The area of research is open; possibilities include (but are not limited to): Indigenous ecological knowledge, ethnohistory, sustainable community development, Indigenous rights, governance, critical environmental anthropology, Indigenous wellbeing, health and medical anthropology. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related discipline (that is, using ethnological methodologies), such as Indigenous Studies, or Geography; a PhD is preferred, however candidates witha Master’s degree and university teaching experience or relevant professional experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a vibrant undergraduate program that includes social anthropology and archaeology. The new faculty member will be expected to teach existing core courses and develop and teach new courses, maintain an active research program, and participate in the administration of the Department and the University. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with members of both Indigenous and academic communities and to support the project of Decolonizing the University.

Applicants are requested to address how they fulfill the following elements:
- knowledge of L’nu and/or other Canadian Indigenous societies and cultures
- training in Anthropology
- ability to teach undergraduate courses in Anthropology, including existing courses at the introductory level
- teaching interests
- research interests
- experience with, commitment to, facilitation and promotion of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
