The School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan offers an amazing opportunity to coordinate the revision and development of the curriculum for the only master's program in the North America focused on Energy Security in Northern, Indigenous, and Remote communities. Primary Purpose: To coordinate the curriculum review and re-development for the existing SENS Master’s Degree (MSs) in Energy Security. 

Nature of Work: Lead review and redevelopment of curriculum for the online delivery of the Master of Sustainability (MSs) in Energy Security in the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan.  The primary target audience for the curriculum and program is Canadian Northern and Indigenous students who will be community energy champions in their communities and regions.  Reporting to Executive Director of the School of Environment and Sustainability, the Curriculum Development Coordinator works closely with the Director of the Energy Security program, the Special Advisor on Energy Security, the USask Distance Education Unit, subject matter experts, and an external review committee composed of Indigenous, industry and academic stakeholders. This position is preferably located in Saskatoon; but can be remote with the expectation of several, short, scheduled working visits to Saskatoon.  The schedule for this position is flexible while maintaining productive relationships and consistent progress toward project goals.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Work with a review committee of external industry, Indigenous and academic stakeholders to identify core student learning outcomes and competencies.

  • Work closely with the Director of the Energy Security program and with the Distance Education Unit (DEU) on all relevant internal processes.

  • Ensure alignment of learning materials with learning outcomes and competencies at the course and program levels.

  • Coordination with subject matter experts contracted to develop course materials.

  • Some document writing will be required.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:  A graduate degree in Education or a related field.  An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered.

Experience:  Utilizing learning management systems to develop and deliver online learning activities for post-secondary students.  Experience working with Indigenous or Northern communities and with industry or government is strongly preferred.  Experience working in university settings is highly valued.

Skills: Familiarity with organization and design of post-secondary curricula and public education materials; development of hybrid and online curricula would be considered an asset; evidence of commitment to the success of all learners; strong understanding of on-line as well as experiential learning platforms; ability to interact effectively with external partners, faculty, staff, and students.

Demonstrated professional maturity, judgement, and decisiveness; ability to take initiative and be self-directed; strong evidence of relationship building, ability to work collaboratively, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects prioritize effectively, make decision independently and be self-motivated; demonstrated leadership in a flexible and collaborative manner; ability to handle all interactions with tact, discretion, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity; proficiency with technology in supporting distance education.
