Norden 1The Nordic countries and Poland play a central role in reaching an agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2012. The UN meeting, at which the climate agreement will be approved, will be held in Copenhagen in 2009, during Sweden’s EU Presidency. For its part, Poland will host the UN climate meeting in Poznan at the end of 2008.
 
Discussions during the Nordic meeting of the ministers for the environment in the morning will include the activities of the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation, NEFCO, as well as joint Nordic activities at future EU meetings and other international meetings.
 
Tuesday’s meetings, to be held at the offices of the Nordic Council of Ministers, will be led by Sweden, this year’s President of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic governments’ official co-operation forum.
 
Those attending the meetings on 8 April will be the ministers for the environment from Sweden (Andreas Carlgren), Finland (Kimmo Tiilikainen), Denmark (Troels Lund Poulsen), Norway (Erik Solheim), Iceland (Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir), Poland (Maciej Nowicki), the Faroe Islands (Helana Dam á Neystabø), Greenland (Kim Kielsen), Åland (Katrin Sjögren) as well as Denmark’s Climate and Energy Minister, Connie Hedegaard.
 
The media will have the opportunity to get the latest information on the ongoing climate process at a press conference after the climate meeting. The press conference will take place at 16-16.30 in the Secretariat to the Nordic Council of Ministers, Store Strandstræde 18, Copenhagen.
