Marianne was born in Denmark and immigrated to the U.S. at a young age.  She was brought up in Connecticut but returned to Denmark frequently to visit family.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Connecticut College.  After finishing college, she spent several years on research projects in ecology that took her to Antarctica, Labrador, Mexico, Guatemala and Alaska as well as working for various conservation organizations in the United Marianne JorgensenStates.  She then completed her Masters degree in business administration from Boston University and pursued a career in banking both in New York City and then Boston.  Her interest in keeping a connection with Scandinavia and travel brought her to work at Scandinavian Seminar and now the UArctic.  To work with issues relating to the Arctic with its increasing importance and relevance to the world and the environment is what has drawn Marianne to this work.  She looks forward to the new challenge and possibilities of the position.
